Maxie mystery explained?

Regular readers of Ms. Kitty's Saloon and Road Show know that Ms. Kitty's cat Maxie the Magnificent has the habit of disappearing without explanation, but always returns. I've just seen an article that may explain where he goes- Pet cat catches the daily bus for four years . "Casper, which is 12 years old, boards the No3 service at 10.55am from outside his home in Plymouth, Devon, and travels the entire 11-mile route before returning home about an hour later... Susan Finden, 65, a care worker who is Casper's owner, said: "Casper has always disappeared for hours at a time but I never understood where he was going. I called him Casper because he had a habit of vanishing like a ghost. But then some of the drivers told me he had been catching the bus..."

Ms. Kitty, is there a bus system on Widbey Island?

Yes, Joel, and it's FREE! Of course! Why didn't I think of that? Little scamp----that's probably how he got injured too, pushing aside another cat to be first in line to board. Buses stop wherever there's a passenger to pick up or drop off, in addition to the regular bus stops. I'm so glad you discovered this!

Yeah, my first though reading your last post was "Isn't it ironic- when he first started running around, you were afraid he'd run afoul of an eagle or coyote, when actually the only thing bad enough to bother him was another cat!"

Now that I think of it, it's only natural that cats would ride the bus- they sure couldn't hitchhike with that tiny little thumb!

You are so right about the thumb, Joel. I'm just glad he's getting on the bus instead of in a car.

Thank god we at least can be sure he's not hitchhiking!

That's right. You don't want to mess with a hitchhiker like Maxie!
